Way back when…
Lyle & Scott are a truly unique brand which has seen fashion through the decades; following and trend setting every step of the way.
Back in 1874 William Lyle & Walter Scott founded in Hawick, Scotland their new company Lyle & Scott with a minimalistic loan of only £800. DID YOU KNOW their aim originally was to try and meet the demands for exceptional quality under garments in Victorian Britain. Between 1874 and 1926 the Lyle & Scott brand grew and began to establish a worldwide reputation applying its expert woollen skills to further roads of fashion producing knitwear and in just two short years doubling their turnover. 1954 proved a milestone for Lyle & Scott which saw an incredible partnership with Christian Dior which produced a joint, branded cashmere range, this was the first of what would be many powerhouse collaborations.
Wondering why we haven’t yet mentioned that famous Lyle and Scott Eagle? That’s because it was born in the 60s, coinciding with the new golf wear range which was launched. This new relationship with golf yet again brought more global exposure for Lyle & Scott further developing a celebrity following, stars such as Bob Hope and Bing Crosby loved the brand.
The Royal Warrant
1975 was a big year for Lyle & Scott, as they received the ultimate reward for their emphasis on quality, craftsmanship, and excellence when they were appointed the Royal Warrant by HRH, The Duke of Edinburgh, they still hold this warrant today and each piece of Lyle & Scott attire bears the Royal Warrant in the back neck. By 1986 Lyle & Scott had established themselves as the leaders in golf wear again with a strict celebrity following.
