Today- Friday the 12th of December is officially Christmas Jumper Day in the UK; the day when you pick out the most festive ensemble possible from your wardrobe all in the name of charity and Christmas spirit. With millions expected to take part today including celebrities like these below, we are debating how to do it in style.
It might have become a bit of an office tradition or perhaps a chance for you and your mates to go out dressed like a bunch of Santa’s helpers but either way an increasing number of people are taking part. It isn’t particularly about looking good on Christmas Jumper Day but as you can see from Lyle & Scott’s Snowflake design this season, these products do have a place in fashion too. There are all sorts of ways you can get involved with the day itself whether you want to take the loud approach and have something like a light-up reindeer on your knitwear (the ironically garish approach) or if you would prefer to keep a low profile with something more restrained and fashionable.
Plenty of high street stores offer budget novelty knitwear, but if you are not exactly bursting with festive cheer and would rather pick up a timeless wool jumper with knitted intarsias or fair isle patterns then you can find plenty of options at Mainline Menswear, all the while maintaining the spirit.
For the sake of spending a few extra pounds you will instead have an item which you can wear not only on this specified day, but also on a number of other occasions during the winter- unlike your colleagues and friends who will no doubt throwing out their comical jumpers or at least confining them to the back of the wardrobe until next year!
Expect to see your fair share of #myxmasjumper hash tags!
In the age of the “selfie” and social media it is becoming more and more popular to “like” and “share” our efforts for charity and just like other campaigns such as “Movember”, Christmas Jumper Day is growing year after year. Officially it is now in its third year as an event and it is reported that 4 million people are set to take part this year, most of whom will be donating to the Save the Children campaign which helps aid vulnerable children worldwide.

Christmas Jumper Style Guide
Whilst the whole point isn’t exactly to look good in the first place, everybody wants to be that person who can actually pull the look off, and with a good quality piece you are much more likely to do that. In the office or workplace you probably have less flexibility on what you can wear with your winter warmer but if you are going out with friends or plan on wearing your jumper again during the festive period you can’t go wrong when teaming it with a pair of dark jeans and some sleek brown chukka-style boots. Ideally you want the jumper to be the most noticeable part of your outfit so as long as you keep the other items in your ensemble quite neutral in colour you should be on to a winner.
