Timberland Boots: How to Wear

Timberland-SS14-ShoesFor as long as 40 years Timberland boots have been a symbol of casual outdoor footwear and the hard wearing boots have combined function and fashion in a way which other brands can only envy. They were formed back in 1952 and after years of success they are rightly considered one of America’s most prestigious brand names.

timberland logoSince the 80s the famed “yellow boot” has been more than just the worker’s boot and despite never intending to do so, Timberland took world of fashion by storm and they’ve never looked back since. Much like any fashionable item or label which has stood the test of time, Timberland has been the cornerstone of many individual styles and has rarely changed in the face of new trends.

Made from premium leather and suede, the boots are still constructed from the same materials as they were at the very beginning, which is a good indication of how reliable and authentic their product is for any first time buyers. Most people who purchase the brand’s boots stay loyal because they are simple and they can’t be beaten for what they do. Despite what sounds quite straightforward, there is a lot of complicated and intricate processes that go into making them. Each boot is made from 39 pieces and has a whopping 80 stages of production to get through before they have that long-lasting and crisp look that they have when they hit the shelves.

People have sported these on their feet for years but 2014 is said to be the year where they hit mainstream fashion once again as both men and women are buying more and more. At Mainline Menswear you can find the classic yellow coloured shoe along with tasteful darker models, with different styled silhouettes altogether available too, meaning there is something for most tastes. Timberland Trend

The boots most recently reached their fashion peak just after the turn of the century when they became associated with rappers and the R n’B music scene when the likes of Jay Z championed the look. Timberland’s big break came in the 1980s when they crossed the Atlantic and made it big in Europe where Italy, Germany and the UK were the hotspots for the footwear from New England and the Italian “Paninaro” movement was seen as the epicentre of the whole trend. This was a subculture which developed in Italy, typified by young affluent males who wore these boots in coordination with their cosmopolitan lifestyle, hanging out in cafes, bars and restaurants.

Timberland’s success is surely down to the fact they are able to appeal to different cultures, demographics and geographical locations. In the 90s it was the Asian market which became the most fruitful for the brand having swept from Hong Kong through to Japan because of their unquenchable thirsts for the American culture. Still to this day the Timberland boot is a symbol of individuality for young people across Asia.

You can expect a lot of people to be wearing their boots in collaboration with a big winter coat this year. Roll neck and cable knits are both popular in the festive period too and either of these give a casual look when combined with a pair of Timberland boots with an undoubted rugged and masculine feel too.  It is needless to say that the worker look is a popular one this year and for that reason checked shirts as well as denim shirts go hand-in-hand with this look, as do worker jackets from brands like Carhartt.

It was never intended to be a fashion staple when founder Nathan Swartz first designed his boot, but a balance between function and fashion is the Holy Grail for designers and it is something Timberland has always been fortunate enough to have. This rare feat is ultimately achieved because of their sophisticated designs which are comfortable, durable and timeless in appearance.
