How to dress for the beach
The summer months inevitably bring with them a trip to the beach or two – even in Britain. What a lot of people don’t realise is you can still be stylish and turn a few heads even with the sand between your toes. Whether you’re on holiday abroad, or just at your local beach, there’s no reason why you can’t be the envy of fellow sunbathers with your seaside style.
Firstly, remember that you don’t have to go topless. One way to add instant summer style is with a white or floral shirt. You can always undo a few extra buttons if you’re getting a bit hot! But be careful if you opt for a floral shirt, and always try and pair it with block colour shorts. Remember, there’s nothing worse than a disaster clash of too many patterns.
When choosing your shorts, you can opt for swim-shorts if you know you’re likely to have a dip in the sea. Or keep it simple with chino shorts. Colours like navy, light blue or burgundy all scream summer. And there’s no reason to be afraid to wear pink if you’re daring enough. If you’ve spent days in the gym getting your summer bod ready, why not go for a pair of shorter shorts. Then you finally have the chance to show off all your work on leg day.
Pairing your outfit with the right pair of sunglasses is also key. They can really add that little something extra to your outfit. When buying sunglasses make sure you choose the right style for your face. For example if you’ve got a rounder face choose aviators, as these will make your face look slimmer. But make sure you avoid circular frames, as these will just make everything look rounder!
Finally, footwear is what completes your stylish trip to the beach. Even if you’re going to be walking barefoot in the sand, you still need a comfortable pair of shoes to get you to your destination. And maybe for sitting in a beachside bar enjoying a cold beer or two!
The classic flip-flop is always an obvious choice. But if you want to add a bit more class to your outfit then boat shoes may be the way forward. You can choose from a wide range of colours, and they’re the perfect mix between smart and casual. You can head straight to a fancy restaurant after your beach day without having to change your shoes!
