Style Rules for Shorter Men

Written by Kimberley | 22/11/2016

If you’re one of many shorter men, it may be harder to dress in a way that isn’t going to make you look like you shop in the children’s section. This guide will advise you on the style and cut of clothing to add the appearance of extra inches to your stature!

1Tighter, slim fitting t-shirts are a must if you’re a shorter man; they give the impression that your body is much longer than it really is. Standard grey, black, navy and white t-shirts look great with everything and can be dressed up with a cool jacket for a night out, or jeans and trainers for a more casual look. Take notes from Calvin Harris, he knows how to rock a white t-shirt!

This Hugo Boss pack of t-shirts should be an essential part of your wardrobe, and at only £35.00 for three colours that go with everything, it is amazing value.

Jeans are an important part of any look and a shorter man must get this part of his look right. If you go for a fit that is too baggy, it will swamp you and make you look shorter. Slim and skinny jeans will be your new best friends, adding the illusion of length to your legs.

On the left this classic pair of Levis are slim fit and will work well with the plain t-shirts suggested above.  Their slim fit will accentuate the length of your legs, making you look taller.  Don’t hide behind an outfit that is too big – dress to impress! At £65, these jeans are a great investment regardless of height.

Next up are skinny jeans. On the right the Ralph Lauren pair for £99 are a good fit, especially if you are short and on the slimmer side. For stockier guys, we suggest staying with slim cut jeans as opposed to skinny.

Shoes and Trainers

A good way to add a few subtle inches are a good pair of trainers. Stay away from plimsoll style canvas shoes as they’re very flat! Nike Air and Nike Air Huarache trainers have a chunky sole that will add inches to your height but still look great. This black pair are a statement without being too loud or overbearing.

If you’re looking for something on the smarter side, these Barbour Redhead Chukka Boots have a slight heel and would look great with your jeans t-shirt combo.

6As we have regrettably entered the winter months, you’ll need a jacket to keep out the frigid British chill. Bomber jackets are very much in and as they are usually of a slim fit, they are perfect for the shorter man and this Fred Perry jacket for £150 is no exception; it has a stretch ribbed waistband that keeps the jacket hugging your body giving your torso a ‘longer’ look. This jacket would look great on a shopping trip or going for a casual pint with the lads; or, rather, just about anywhere really!
