Pitti Uomo is a four-day bi-annual exhibition that draws retailers, designers, models and menswear enthusiasts from around the globe to buy, sell and set trends. The 91st edition of Florence’s international menswear trade fair opened Tuesday 9th January 2017 with 1,220 brands showcasing their 2017 fall-winter collections.
The first edition of Pitti Uomo was held in Florence in September 1972. The exhibition was used as a platform for raising the profile of Italian designers and has now achieved international stature as the world’s most influential menswear show.
Over the years, Pitti Uomo has become so much more than just a transactional selling and buying marketplace, it’s a destination for menswear enthusiasts and professionals to gather as a community whilst browsing clothes from brands – old and new!
This edition of the bi-annual event features 540 foreign brands showcasing their latest collections. These brands include Paul Smith, Aquascutum, Barbour, Edwin, Farah, Fred Perry, Oliver Sweeney, Tommy Hilfiger and Reebok – all of which Mainline have in stock now!
The exposure to new labels alone makes the trip worthwhile as Pitti Uomo constantly delivers some of the best menswear street style – and this year did not disappoint. Whilst London Fashion Week Men’s was focused on the bright colours, Pitti went towards more neutral shades – especially brown.
The new trends you see at Pitti are often what you can see on the streets of New York, London and Milan (and online at Mainline Menswear) next season – so watch this space.
