Towards the end of 2010 and early 2011 Pretty Green, the designer menswear brand designed by ex Oasis front man Liam Gallagher, won two major awards in the fashion world including ‘Menswear Brand of the Year’. Among the brands on the shortlist Pretty Green were alongside some fantastic brands such as Paul Smith and Boss Orange and the award had previously been won by Ralph Lauren, so the relatively new brand was in some very good company. This is a long way to have come for the brand designed by Gallagher and his creative director Nick Holland, as Pretty Green’s first collection was only released in 2009 and didn’t receive fantastic press coverage in the beginning, however in true Gallagher style he has won the press and public over with his charm and individuality and created a brand that is set to go places in 2011. With over one hundred UK stockists, a selected handful overseas and an ever growing seasonal range that now boasts two sub labels, Green being the everyday casual label and Black being the more tailored and refined collection, Pretty Green is growing at a rapid rate, with worldwide domination of men’s fashion firmly within the sights of the up and coming brand.
The Pretty Green brand name was taken from Gallagher’s musical influences when he was starting out in music, naming the brand after a song by The Jam, who are coincidentally fronted by another fashionable male, more associated with Ben Sherman, Paul Weller. Along with the brands celebrity front man comes a whole host of celebrity followers and fans including Liverpool and England midfielder Joe Cole, Kasabian front man Tom Meighan and actor of The Inbetweeners fame James Buckley. These famous faces have helped to push the brand further into the limelight alongside the formation and first album of Liam Gallagher’s new brand Beady Eye.
The clothing has taken a complete style of its own with Gallagher claiming that the reason he set up the brand was because there was nothing in the current market place that he would wear, eighteen months on and he has a growing range of clothing and accessories that all bear the signature circular Pretty Green logo and on the more pricey items a small quirk or twist, such as a lime green button or paisley trim, that sets them apart from their rivals and rest of the designer clothing ranges. The collection sees a huge range of Pretty Green t shirts in crew neck and polo shirt designs with a range of knitted and zip polos available in the Black label. Alongside this there are selections of button down collar shirts, casual jackets and coats including denim jackets, harringtons and windbreakers and jumpers and knitwear while the iconic parka jackets take a slightly more limited edition feel to them with the limited numbers coats being snapped up nearly straight away, including the Black label parkas priced at around four to five hundred pounds. To finish the brand off perfectly there are a range of denim jeans and footwear not to mention the accessories that are populated by the casual scarf, as worn frequently by Gallagher himself.
So with all of this planned for 2011 and much more for the next few years why not grab yourself a piece of rock and roll styled Pretty Green clothing here at Mainline Menswear and join the revolution that is Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green clothing label.
