What to Wear on a Night Out in Winter
As the twinkling Christmas lights begin their takeover across town and city centres, dropping temperatures may deter the less dedicated from a night out that they would have otherwise enjoyed in better weather. We can help you decide what you should wear to keep the chill at bay and still have a great time out.
It can be hard to dress properly in colder climes when you’re trying to enjoy an evening on the town with your friends. No one wants to have to carry a bulky coat or wear countless layers when going to a nightclub or party. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to keep warm without forsaking your style or your dignity.
Firstly, you can never go wrong with a classic pair of denim jeans. Perfect not only for winter but for when the weather starts to get warmer again too, and renowned for their versatility and durability, jeans can be a great investment when it comes to your wardrobe. They can be paired off with a nice set of trainers, or perhaps a pair of Chelsea boots to add a bit of sophistication to your outfit.
As for shirts and jackets, why not pair off a light shirt with a blazer or thicker jumper? Try to aim for an outfit that you can strip parts away from in case you need to cool down, but one that still works as a whole when it has been reduced. Adding a smart coat or jacket builds your outfit into one that provides extra warmth as the nights continue to get colder.
Check out this article for a more detailed guide on how best to stylishly build layers in an outfit during the winter. In terms of colours to avoid, stay away from white or lighter shades – not only do darker colours retain heat better, but they’re also easier to wash. For what trends to perhaps steer clear of this season, see this article on what to avoid this winter.
For the finishing touches, try to implement a beanie hat and scarf. Beanies are perfect; they are a casual accessory to any outfit all year round, and therefore they don’t detract from an outfit even if a coat or jacket has been removed already.
Scarves can be more difficult to pull off without forsaking convenience, but the style they add and the warmth they provide are well worth maybe having to carry in a coat pocket. Finally, warm socks can be a godsend on a night out – you would be surprised how easy it is to neglect the simple things, and end up coming home with cold feet.
