About GH Bass

George Henry Bass began to work in 1876 in the shoemaking business as junior partner in E.P. Packard & Co in Wilton. By 1879, he became the sole owner, and changed the company name to G.H. Bass & Co. In the fall of 1988, G.H. Bass & Co. unveils the signature collection of three shoe styles including the Buc, Rangeley and Weejuns. In 1993, the Classic Penny style of Weejuns Collection is renamed- Leavitt Penny. Operating with the license to sell G.H. Bass & Co. shoes in 2011, Tommy Hilfiger launched a limited edition footwear collection in collaboration with G.H. Bass & Co. The collection was centred around the “Weejuns” penny loafer.

GH Bass Footwear

Here at Mainline Menswear, we stock a great range of the Weejuns Loafers, Light Deck Shoe, Larson Loafers, Wilton Driver Shoes, Loafers. These are smart, casual and designed to be a light and flexible shoe. These shoes are available with leather, suede or combination uppers in various traditional colourways of black, cream, blue and brown, a slip on design and classic hand stitched seams and Moccasin style stitching and a mixture of leather soles and rubber soles.

On some of the shoes we stock there is a notch located on the inner side of the heel and is known as a “Gentleman’s Corner” or “Gentleman’s Notch”, and is simply to prevent your heel from catching or snagging the cuff of your trousers. A small but important detail.
