Men: How To Style Summer Jackets
When it’s too hot for a coat but too cold to go without what do you do? Jackets. Summer jackets are a lifesaver in this temperamental weather and a must have in any man’s wardrobe.
Everyone needs at least 8 summer jackets in my humble opinion (casual, smart, smart casual, scruffy, fancy, the-one-your-ex-stole, over the top, okay-to-lose), but for those of you that find that a little excessive, here are some of Mainline Menswear’s top jacket-types for your next summer jacket.
The Denim Jacket
We’re starting big and bold with this sherpa denim jacket by Calvin Klein. Seeing as most of us wear jeans 99% of the time (don’t worry, I’m guilty of this too) it can often be difficult and a little intimidating to get away with a denim jacket.
Double denim is making a return on some catwalks, but if you’re not feeling that confident a general rule of thumb is to make sure your jeans are a darker colour denim than your jacket. Or just don’t wear jeans – simple. Either way, you’ll be looking and feeling great in what is the perfect summer jacket. Find out more about how to wear a denim jacket.
The Thin Rain Coat
It rains often in the UK, but in summer that tough and sturdy waterproof jacket you own is just going to make you sweat through the rain. Then it feels like its raining on the outside and the inside of your outfit – ew.
The answer to this problem you may not have realised you had (but certainly do now) is a thin rain jacket. Like this one from Barbour Beacon. Thin enough that the heat won’t bother you, but it’ll also keep you dry. Win-win!
The Gilet/Body Warmer
Okay, so technically this isn’t a jacket per say, but a gilet is perfect for those windy summer days. Keeping you warm but not too warm. Perfect for when a coat is simply too much.
We Recommend this navy gilet from EA7 Emporio Armani. It’s comfortable, simple and very easy to match with a number of different outfits.
