Levis: American classics with a twist

In 1853, a German-born immigrant named Levi Strauss founded what would become one of the most iconic denim brands in history. Today, Levi’s is available in over 100 countries across the world. The brand has an expansive line that includes everything from jeans to denim jackets. The company’s Autumn Winter 2021 collection was recently unveiled at Mainline Menswear and it features some really exciting new styles!

Durable denim designs

Levi’s denim is an iconic fashion staple with products that are both functional and stylish. It all began when Strauss moved to San Francisco in 1853 and began supplying gold miners with sturdy overalls. These pants were based on the denim work pants worn by European miners but designed to be more durable than the thin cotton fabrics they were constructed from. This was necessary when they were in the California hills.

The brand’s most iconic product, Levi’s classic 501 button fly jeans, has been a wardrobe favourite since 1873.  Strauss and his business partner Jacob Davis received a patent for their creation. Levi’s have been worn by generations of celebrities from Marlon Brando to Brad Pitt and modern-day style icons such as Kanye and Jay-Z.

The most popular styles

Both men and women are familiar with the most iconic styles of Levi’s jeans including the 501, 511 and the 512. These include the popular high rise skinny jeans that feature a slim or tapered leg. The original 501s were created with extra room in the hips and thighs to accommodate American miners. Later versions became slimmer fitting when more people adopted an active lifestyle.

The 511 is a newer style that has been popular with petite fashionistas since it was launched in the 1990s.
